Dear Beloved Community,

Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wa Barakatuhu,

I, am writing to inform you that from the 19th of July, I will no longer be working at the KMA after six beautiful transformative years. From that date, my sermons, counseling, and lessons will come to an end.

Serving this community has been an amazing journey. Every Friday, we explored our faith and strengthened our bonds as brothers and sisters in Islam. Your warmth and dedication have deeply touched my heart and made my time here truly special.

Though I may not be present in person, my heart and prayers will always be with you.

May Allah continue to bless this community with unity, peace, and prosperity. I am confident that KMA will continue to flourish and grow as always.

Jazakum Allahu Khairan for allowing me to guide you. I will cherish these memories forever.
With heartfelt gratitude and warmest salaams,

Shaykh Sulayman Van Ael

The KMA Board of Trustees, on behalf of the Kingston Muslim Community, would like to put on record our heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for the wonderful journey of enlightenment that Shaykh Sulayman Van Ael has taken us on over the past six years.

His dedication and innovative spirit have shone through in the lectures and lessons that have been delivered during the six years. Perhaps lesser known, but highly invaluable, were the one on one counselling sessions held in the Masjid premises. These have been unique and very well received by those who have benefited.

Shaykh Sulayman’s warm and engaging personality and his welcoming smile will be sorely missed.

He has been a genuine people’s Imam and it may be a very long time before we have an Imam arrive on a Harley Davidson to deliver a Friday sermon 🙂

As Shaykh Sulayman embarks on his new chapter in life, we would like to extend our best wishes to him on his future endeavours.

He will always be welcome at the Kingston Muslim Association and we hope our paths cross in the near future, in sha Allah.

Kingston Mosque Update

Assalum alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh,

Following on from our previous update of 2nd of March, we can confirm that the trial has concluded and the order of the judge has been sealed. The Court has ruled unequivocally in favour of the KMA Board of Trustees.

  • The Injunction against the two defendants has been confirmed and extended until June 5th 2032
  • This injunction prohibits the defendants from

a) Entering the mosque and it’s environs (including the carpark).
b) Directly or indirectly communicating with our Operations Manager.
c) Publishing any material created for the litigation or contained in the hearing bundles, by any means.

  • The defendants have been ordered to pay KMA costs totalling £92,400. The KMA will seek to recover those costs from the Defendants if they are not forthcoming.

This has been an unfortunate but necessary legal action by the KMA BoT against those who sought to harm the KMA and harass its staff. The Board of Trustees will always do whatever is necessary to fulfil its responsibility of protecting the mosque and its staff.

We will now turn our full attention to more positive initiatives which are beneficial to the congregation and community.

May Allah guide us and make it easy for us all. Aameen

Alhamdulillah, We Have Raised £215,000 for Gaza!

As-salamu alaykum dear brothers and sisters,

We are overwhelmed with gratitude and joy to share some incredible news with our beloved Kingston Mosque congregation. With your unwavering support and generosity, we have successfully raised £215,000 and counting for aid in Gaza. This monumental effort reflects the compassion and unity of our community, and we couldn’t be prouder to be part of such a dedicated and caring congregation.

To put our achievement into perspective, the amount we have raised so far allows us to provide 7 full truckloads of essential food and water containers to our brothers and sisters in Gaza. Alhamdulillah, 4 of these trucks have already been dispatched, bringing much-needed relief to those in dire need. The remaining 3 trucks are ready and waiting to be sent inside as soon as possible, insha’Allah.

This success would not have been possible without the heartfelt contributions from each and every one of you. Your donations, no matter the size, have come together to make a significant impact. We extend our deepest thanks to all who have donated and supported this cause and ask Allah that he accepts it from us all, aameen.

However, our mission is far from over. The situation in Gaza remains critical, and continuous aid is necessary to support those affected. We urge you all to continue your generous donations to ensure we can keep providing this vital assistance.

Additionally, we want to remind everyone that our mosque also needs your help to cover its running costs. Maintaining our beautiful mosque, which serves as a spiritual home for all of us, requires ongoing financial support. Please consider contributing to our mosque fund so that we can continue to offer a place of worship, community, and support for all.

Thank you once again for your incredible generosity and commitment. May Allah bless you all for your kindness and multiply your rewards.

JazakAllah Khairan,

– The KMA Board

Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh,

Bismillah hir-rahma nir-raheem,

We hope this finds you all in the best state of Health and Imaan. This is an update on the injunction case (following on from the previous update of 21st Sep 2023). Briefly, the status then was that the judge had ordered a stay to enable the parties to engage in mediation.

Court provisioned mediation

As per our previous update, the court had ordered that the legal proceedings be stayed until 1st Nov to enable the parties to engage in independent mediation. The conditions stated were:

  1. Any mediator must have no current or past connection to the Kingston Muslim Association.
  2. The costs of any mediation are to be borne equally between the parties.

Unfortunately, the offer of mediation was not taken up by the other party.

  • The injunction would remain in place until the trial.
  • The trial is now set for the 4th and 5th of June.

We are keen and committed to reaching a swift resolution in this case and our aim has always been (and remains) the protection of our property and the safety of our staff, congregants and visitors from any physical, verbal and emotional harm that could possibly befall them when they are under our duty of care.

Hopefully, we can then move onto addressing real matters for which we have been appointed. May Allah make it easy for us and may he guide us in discharging our duties to the community and our membership. Ameen.
