Statement from the KMA Board of Trustees

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuhu,

We are deeply saddened by the horrific fatal stabbings of three young girls in Southport early last week. We, like the rest of country, share in the grief and sorrow of the families affected. We have since watched with horror and disbelief at how the fake news industry has exploited this tragedy in fomenting violence against our places of worship and our community. We deplore and strongly condemn the widespread and wanton acts of violence perpetrated against our mosques and communities, in the last few days.

We, at the KMA, take the security of our staff and congregants very seriously. The security of our premises is constantly kept under review. In the past week, we have been in regular contact with Kingston Police and other relevant authorities, in Kingston, to ensure that the situation is closely monitored, on an ongoing basis. Please be assured that, should a need arise to bolster our security further, then we will act swiftly. We would strongly urge members of the community to remain extremely vigilant at all times and report any act of hate or violence, to the police.

Lastly, and most importantly, we should continue to pray to the Almighty for protection from all forms of hate and evil, Ameen.

KMA Board.
